A solution for galactic disks with Yukawian gravitational potential

چکیده
We present a new solution for the rotation curves of galactic disks with gravitational potential of the Yukawa type. We follow the technique employed by Toomre in 1963 in the study of galactic disks in the Newtonian theory. This new solution allows an easy comparison between the Newtonian solution and the Yukawian one. Therefore, constraints on the parameters of theories of gravitation can be imposed, which in the weak field limit reduce to Yukawian potentials. We then apply our formulae to the study of rotation curves for a zero-thickness exponential disk and compare it with the Newtonian case studied by Freeman in 1970. As an application of the mathematical tool developed here, we show that in any theory of gravity with a massive graviton (this means a gravitational potential of the Yukawa type), a strong limit can be imposed on the mass (mg) of this particle. For example, in order to obtain a galactic disk with a scale length of b ∼ 10 kpc, we should have a massive graviton of mg << 10g. This result is much more restrictive than those inferred from solar system observations. PACS 04.50.+h · 98.62.Hr

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملGlobal Three-dimensional Mhd Simulations of Galactic Gaseous Disks: I. Amplification of Mean Magnetic Fields in Axisymmetric Gravitational Potential
We carried out global three-dimensional resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations of galactic gaseous disks to investigate how the galactic magnetic fields are amplified and maintained. We adopt a steady axisymmetric gravitational potential given by Miyamoto & Nagai (1975) and Miyamoto, Satoh & Ohashi (1980). As the initial condition, we assume a warm (T ∼ 10 K) rotating gas torus centered at ̟ ...
متن کاملBeta Viscose Prescription in Self-Gravitating Disks
Duschl et al. (2000) have shown that the standard model for geometrically thin accretion disks (α-disks) leads to inconsistency if self-gravity play a role. This problem arise from parametrization of viscosity in terms of local sound velocity and vertical disks scale hight. The β-viscosity prescription was introduced by Duschl et al. (2000), which has been derived from rotating shear flow exper...
متن کاملLocal stability criterion for self-gravitating disks in modified gravity
We study local stability of self-gravitating fluid and stellar disk in the context of modified gravity theories which predict a Yukawa-like term in the gravitational potential of a point mass. We investigate the effect of such a Yukawa-like term on the dynamics of self-gravitating disks. More specifically, we investigate the consequences of the presence of this term for the local stability of t...
متن کاملFrom kinematics to dynamics in thin galactic disks
We present a method for recovering the distribution functions of edge-on thin axisymmetric disks directly from their observable kinematic properties. The most generally observable properties of such a stellar system are the line-of-sight velocity distributions of the stars at different projected radii along the galaxy. If the gravitational potential is known, then the general two-integral distr...
